Liberal MP Pat O'Brien has left the Liberal Caucus to sit as an independent over what he perceives to be a rush to pass SSM legislation without adequate consultation.
Perhaps I am wrong. There are some Liberals who have ethics.
Mr. O'Brien is not leaving over the sponsorship scandal or the bribing of opposition MP's, but its a start.
Note that he was in talks with the Conservatives and on that, we have this quote "In the end, I felt that it was not enough for me to move to the Conservative Party".
Seems a bit ambiguous. Not sure how I would take that statement.

Pat was just smitten by the fact that PM is giving him the run around on his issues with SSM. At the point of his comment a few weeks ago, I tend to believe that he was "promised" to have a full and meaningful debate and discussion, witnesses hearings on the SSM issue. However having seen how the Fibs, NDuppies, and SepBloc are railroading the agenda and pushing hard to pass this before the next election occurs, he must have felt that he was USED and LIED to. Keep in mind that he is an active member of the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic Church Affiliated brotherhood of MEN, who are pushing hard against the SSM. I should know , I am a Catholic who was somewhat involved in KofC in a past life ...
I wouldn't give much stock to the notion that Pat will help the CPC bring down the Fibs. Pat is only after Pat's interest, if not he would have already done so before and I will really, really be surprised if he does more than that...

Don't get me wrong, I do not believe he will help bring down the Libs. The point of my post is that perhaps we are seeing the begining of the end for the teflon Liberals.
I believe the Libs should be brought down because of government waste and corruption. I think all parties should unite to bring the gov't down. I cannot see how the NDP could support such a corrupt gov't, even for a $4.6 billion payoff.
I cannot see how anyone could support them based on what is going on. If I was a Lib MP, I would not be able to look myself in the mirror.

You may not be able to look yourself in the mirror, but with a 14 point lead on the Conservatives it doesn't appear likely you will be out looking for a job.
This is a charged political time where some other party could break out and take over but as of right now it is only the NDP who seem to be doing what the people want. Of course, business would not support an NDP government. But with GM probably knocking out (I estimate) 10,000 jobs the union ranks supporting the NDP will swell.... PM Jack LAYton?

And yet, where is Stephen Harper in front of the camera every night talking about issues and putting a human face on the Conservatives? I listen to the BBC report on the drive home every night and in Britain the Conservatives are facing the same problem as Canadian conservatives are. They just lost again to Labour although Labour's lead has reduced somewhat. Conservatives are seen as too extreme for today's voters. That is not my opinion but they really need to show why they should govern. Again, where is Stephen Harper? Before Chretien came to power, he was a consistent image on the TV, he was asking questions about the government almost every night and whether you like it or not it pays off. Information overload equals pattern recognition. He turned out to be MORE corrupt than Brian Mulroney but at least he was not tarred with a bad image and then let it stick. That is what Stephen Harper is not doing- he is not pressing the advantage to turn the light on the Fiberals.

Interesting points. However, all the talk on the Conservative blogs is wheather Harper shoudl be replaced, should his communications team be fired, or should he talk less and let his other MP's be in front of the camera more.
You want him to press his advantage more, but most are saying Canadians don't seem to care about corruption, try something else.
I am not sure what else Conservatives could do to highlight corruption.
P.S. I can look at myself in the mirror, I am not a Liberal MP.
